The SPC-04 ATOE Conference will take place concurrently with the CIGR-AgEng 2012 International Conference of Agricultural Engineering.
The ATOE Conference started in 2002 with the purpose of creating a forum of discussion on automation and new technologies applied to agricultural, forestry and construction vehicles. A decade later numerous advances have been made in this field, and it seems to be the right time to sum up previous achievements and project ahead the future of agricultural robotics and intelligent off-road machines.
The synergic effect of very effective sensors and high computer power has made mobile robotics become a reality. Applications are being developed in every possible engineering field with special emphasis in agriculture, where two circumstances favor this trend: first, the numerous benefits of automating repetitive and fatiguing tasks; and second, the popularization of global positioning satellite systems. The 5th ATOE concurrent conference will provide a unique opportunity for presenting recent results in the novel fields of automation and robotics for off-road vehicles, creating an international forum to debate on the application of cutting-edge technology to agricultural production within what is becoming to be known as the space-age farming.
